Helmut List Halle

Over and above, it is astonishing how excellent even a multi-purpose hall sounds when it is well built.

For many years, the Helmut List Halle has been my preferred cool workplace in mid-summer Graz for a few hours, and sometimes for several days, in July.

As part of the Styriarte, many unforgettable events take place here year after year. Practically everything that has a sound and a name and needs a lot of space is performed, from piano recitals to orchestral concerts to operas. In early July 2021, our “615313” with Bernd Glemser made its debut in the Helmut List Halle.

Many hours before the appearance of the pianist, I was already there to tune our new piano duo grand piano with reference to the demands of the artist and the acoustics of the hall. In my short video you can see how huge an empty concert hall looks from the stage and what the pianist and the grand piano must do to fill the air in the entire hall with even the most delicate sound.
