They are their own universe. And a species of their own from an exciting new, unique world of music: Christopher Dell, Christian Lillinger and Jonas Westergaard, DLW for short.
DLW undoubtedly have the coolness of the "Men in Black", and when they leave the stage after their performance, it seems as if three heart specialists leave the operating room after a highly precise surgical procedure. The highly condensed, complex structures of their rhythmic layering and the colorful dynamics of their sounds are unheard of and incomparable. Musical fusion cuisine, so to speak.
Advance travelers in the matter of new music, here as SDLW: from left to right Christian Lillinger, Jonas Westergaard, Tamara Stefanovich at Op. 615313 and Christopher Dell.
The 3 advance travelers in the matter of new music were to be experienced on June 3 and 4, 2023 at their first DLW Festival in the Orangerietheater in Cologne.
With the congenial travel companions Sofia Jernberg (voice & composition), Tamara Stefanovich (on Op. 615313 & composition) and the Klangforum Wien with Gerald Preinfalk (saxophone), Mikael Rudolfsson (trombone), Gunde Jäch-Micko (violin) and Anna D'Errico (on Op. 615313), the multi-faceted program offered seven concerts of contemporary music over the two days, including works by Aperghis, Berio, Dell, Djordjević, Hurel, Jernberg, Ligeti, Lillinger, Poppe, Sørensen, Stefanovich, Wally and Westergaard. There were also roundtable discussions with all participants on topics such as "Composition vs. Improvisation" and "Freedom and Structure in New Music," as well as a reading by Gregor Dotzauer, author of "Schläft ein Lied in allen Dingen."
