Our "353018" played in Vienna for the second time: after its Konzerthaus debut in 2019, it now played its first acclaimed concert at the Musikverein.
Pierre-Laurent Aimard chose the almost 70-year-old exceptional instrument for his performance with works by Bach, Kurtág, Djordjević and Schubert.
A "temple of music and tradition" and one of the best concert halls in the world: the Vienna Musikverein
Pierre-Laurent Aimard described the "353018" as the "ideal Schubert brother" in our forthcoming documentary "Three days in Toblach - The sound of Schubert" and György Kurtág even called this grand piano "a miracle".
It was therefore very exciting to see what minimalist musical universe would emerge, what sonic cathedral, created from an infinite sea of sparkling overtones, when such a soulful instrument was played by the sound magician Pierre-Laurent Aimard in one of the best concert halls in the world.
A new musical universe from an infinite sea of sparkling overtones:...

The result was simply overwhelming: a magnificent poetry was created that lent the musical narratives of their creators a plasticity that could literally be grasped. The audience itself became part of the narrative, holding its breath during Kurtág's "Játékok" so as not to disturb the course of the stories, which seemed as authentic as if they were being told by Master Kurtág himself.
And like a distant, blurred glimpse into the mirror of his soul, the audience then swayed to the rhythm of Schubert's dances in a wide variety of moods.
Bach probably served as a kind comforter between the two. As a handkerchief, which you fortunately have in your pocket to dab a tear from your eye. After all the pain, after all the beauty.
