To mark the 100th birthday of Pierre Boulez, who died on January 5, 2016, the Salzburg Festival dedicated the concert series “À Pierre” to the French composer and conductor.
The series combined compositions by Pierre Boulez with music that was important to him.
Two concerts in one evening: Pierre-Laurent Aimard in the Great Hall of the Mozarteum Foundation in Salzburg
In the first of two concerts on one evening (both played on Op. 615313), Pierre-Laurent Aimard gave an impressive Solo Concert with compositions by Boulez (Douze Notations, 1st Sonata, Incises), Debussy (selection from Douze Études), Ravel (‘Une barque sur l'océan’, ‘Oiseaux tristes’, ‘Noctuelles’ from Miroirs) and Messiaen (Quatre Études de rythme), demonstrating his unique knowledge of the works of his companions, teachers and musical mentors Boulez and Messiaen, as well as his deep musical and tonal understanding of the music of Debussy and Ravel.

This fantastic concert evening concluded with a second Night Concert, in which the enthusiastic audience was treated to a large and magnificent selection from the second volume of Bach's Well-Tempered Clavier. Critics even hailed it as a ‘midnight miracle of sound’.
